
Territory of Guam is located in the north of the Oceania Continent, with a population of 159,914, making it the 190th largest
national population. Its capital is Hagatna and its largest city is Dededo, with a total population of 44,943. The country
encompasses 541.3 square kilometers making it the 191st largest country in total area. It shares boundaries with The North
Pacific Ocean.
President Barack Hussein Obama is recognized as the Chief of State and, along with Vice President Joseph Robinette Biden,
Jr., holds that position for a four-year term and is eligible for a second term, however citizens of Guam do not vote for
President and Vice President of the United States. Governor Eddie Calvo is recognized as the Head of Government and along
with Lieutenant Governor Ray Tenorio, achieves that status through popular vote and holds that position for a four year term
and is eligible for a second term. Its form of government is an organized, unincorporated territory of the United States and
they celebrate the creation of their constitution on 1st of August 1950.
The languages commonly or officially spoken are English, Chamorro, various Philippine languages, other Pacific languages,
Asian languages and other languages. It counts among its major religions Roman Catholic and other faiths. As sources of
mass communication it has 3 AM, 11 FM, 2 Short Wave and 3 Television stations.
Major geographical features are Mount Lamlam, its highest point at 406 meters and the Pacific Ocean, its lowest point at 0
meters. Its principal waterway is the Pacific Ocean, which measures 125.5 kilometers of Coastline.
Major industries providing for the bulk of their Gross Domestic Product (GDP) are United States military bases, tourism,
construction, transshipment services, concrete production, printing, publishing, food processing and textiles. Its official
currency is United States Dollar.
Here’s something you may not know about Guam. The roads on the island of Guam are made with coral. Guam has no
sand. The sand on the beaches is actually ground coral. When concrete is mixed, the coral sand is used instead of importing
regular sand from thousands of miles away.
